Fatshark has released a free PvP update for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and added asymmetrical 4v4 battles to the cooperative action game. This new versus mode lets players alternate between controlling the game's heroes and its special enemies across modified versions of existing maps, according to the official patch notes.

Players can now choose between the Ubersreik Five heroes and the newly playable Pactsworn faction, which includes controllable versions of the game's skaven enemies. Each round switches team roles, with one side playing through mission objectives while the other attempts to stop their progress using special abilities and coordinated attacks.

The update has launched with five redesigned maps from the base game: Righteous Stand, Screaming Bell, Against the Grain, Fort Brachsenbrücke, and Engines of War. These locations feature new vantage points specifically created for PvP combat.

Fatshark has also implemented a separate progression system for Versus mode, offering exclusive rewards including weapon illusions, portrait frames, and character cosmetics. Players can earn a new currency called Helmgart Sellsword Marks through matches and challenges, which can be spent on these items in the game's emporium.

With the new update, hero power requirements have been removed from veteran difficulty and private games, while champion and legend difficulties now have reduced requirements. Players gain increased experience when leveling alternate characters, and the spoils of war system has been revamped to provide clearer rewards based on chest types and character levels.

Alongside these changes, the update introduces a new player handbook with tutorial content, adjusted difficulty requirements, and adds various quality-of-life enhancements to improve the overall player experience.

The developer has also announced Verminous Dreams, a free DLC pack containing three new levels. The first level will release on December 9, 2024, with the remaining two scheduled for early 2025. This content will be available on all platforms including PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
