Tencent's TiMi Studio Group and Capcom revealed a collaborative project, Monster Hunter Outlanders, via an announcement trailer and press release yesterday. Unlike previous Monster Hunter mobile games - the turn-based Monster Hunter Riders and Niantic's location-based Monster Hunter Now - this new title focuses on open-world survival gameplay.
TiMi Studio Group's portfolio includes mobile adaptations such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Age of Empires Mobile, and Pokémon Unite.
In an interview with Famitsu magazine, the development team detailed the game's four-player cooperative hunting gameplay, five weapon types, and an air glider system for open-world travel. The team also adapted the franchise's traditional combat controls and interface for mobile devices, while expanding the companion system beyond the series' traditional Palicoes to include collectible characters similar to Genshin Impact.
The game will include regular world events and community activities as part of its live service features, and TiMi Studio Group Producer Dong Huang stated during the announcement that, "Monster Hunter Outlanders offers players an authentic hunting experience in a massive open world featuring the community and social systems players are looking for today."
No release date has been announced, but the game will launch on Apple's App Store and Google Play following multiple playtests.
