During the Warcraft 30th Anniversary stream, Blizzard announced a StarCraft-themed mini-set for The Great Dark Beyond expansion, set to release in January 2025. The company indicated that this will be the largest mini-set in Hearthstone's history.
The mini-set will introduce cards from StarCraft's three core factions, with Sarah Kerrigan leading Zerg cards for Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Hunters, and Warlocks. Artanis will command the Protoss faction, available to Druids, Mages, Priests, and Rogues, while Jim Raynor will represent Terran forces for Warriors, Paladins, and Shamans.
For the 2025 season, dubbed the Year of the Raptor, the developer also revealed three upcoming expansions. The first, Into the Emerald Dream, will feature Druids battling Old Gods. The second expansion, The Shrouded City, will return to Un'Goro as a sequel to 2017's Journey to Un'Goro set. The final expansion, The Heroes of Time, will follow Chromie through alternate timelines as she recruits different versions of iconic Warcraft characters to confront Murozond.
The company said each faction will maintain its traditional StarCraft gameplay elements. Zerg cards will focus on aggressive strategies, Protoss cards will feature high-cost units, and Terran cards will expand the Starship system from The Great Dark Beyond expansion, which features the Draenei race and interstellar travel mechanics.
The cards will remain playable in Standard format until The Great Dark Beyond rotates out in 2026.
