During its latest "special program" livestream, HoYoverse revealed Ochkanatlan, a new sub-region launching in Genshin Impact Version 5.2. The developer shared details of this ancient city on its official HoYoLAB platform, where it carries the title The Fabled Forbidden Ground.
Screenshots reveal an area consumed by fog and Abyss corruption in the world of Teyvat. HoYoLAB posts show players exploring cloud-filled skies above the ruins, with hidden secrets scattered throughout the vertical space.
A dragon inhabits the region's depths, with lesser draconic creatures found across the territory. Like the Hydro Dragon Sovereign Neuvillette, this dragon plays a significant role in the region's story. The development team hints at unique dragon-related encounters that will challenge players throughout their exploration of the ancient ruins.
Two new characters arrive with the region on November 20. Players can recruit Chasca, a five-star Anemo DPS unit, and Ororon, a four-star support character. Neuvillette returns in the second phase of Version 5.2.
HoYoverse built Ochkanatlan around vertical exploration. Players traverse from misty depths to cloud-piercing heights in what the development notes describe as "a truly three-dimensional adventure experience." Early screenshots shared on HoYoLAB showcase multiple platforms and pathways at different elevations, suggesting a complex network of routes through the ancient ruins. The persistent fog appears to be both a visual element and a key part of the region's navigation challenges.
