Kadokawa Corporation, FromSoftware's parent company, recently announced it had 26 games in active development. According to the report released in conjunction with its latest financial statement, the company plans to release 20 titles for consoles and six for mobile devices.
FromSoftware, known for Dark Souls and Armored Core, is one of several developers involved in these projects. Since Kadokawa's acquisition of FromSoftware in 2014, the studio has produced several successful titles, including Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6. The studio's president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has indicated that following Elden Ring's release, FromSoftware will focus on multiple smaller-scale projects.
Other Kadokawa subsidiaries contributing to this lineup include Spike Chunsoft, which is developing Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. Japanese studio Gotcha Gotcha Games, which owns the RPG Maker IP, is also part of Kadokawa's development network.
In December 2023, Kadokawa acquired Acquire, the studio behind Tenchu and Octopath Traveler. This acquisition brought the total number of game studios under Kadokawa to four. While fans have expressed interest in sequels to games like Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, any potential sequels would likely be smaller in scale than Elden Ring.
The company's development strategy extends beyond its internal studios, as demonstrated by Cattle Call's development of Metal Max Xeno. This expansion of Kadokawa's game portfolio follows its recent solid market performance, mainly driven by the success of Elden Ring.
The financial statement did not specify which of the 26 announced titles are being developed internally versus through external partnerships. No release windows were provided for the upcoming projects.
