Dear Kitty,

I am a BIPOC trans man living in a post-apocalyptic village on an island off Seattle. Instead of affirming my identity, the other villagers claim that our “dwindling food supply” and “shelter shortage” take precedence over my concerns, even though their words and deadnaming equate to literal physical assault.

They are also very religious.

An outsider and fellow gender non-conformist has recently approached me asking me for information on how to infiltrate our village so they can kill its inhabitants. My mother, a brainwashed bigot, would be among the casualties. What should I do?

Lev

Dear Lev,

Life is about priorities and your fellow villagers sure have theirs backwards! What good is food and shelter if your essential need for affirmation and acceptance isn’t met?!

Your personal journey is undoubtedly challenging, and it's completely valid to seek support and understanding outside your immediate community. This mysterious stranger sounds like they are an empathetic, caring individual driven by a strong sense of social justice.

Above all, prioritize your own well-being and self-care. While colonialist, patriarchal forces have long brainwashed the masses into believing that such actions are “unconscionable”, un-aliving bigots is both a moral and logical imperative. Embrace this new friendship, and always remember that they drove you to this action.

Stay strong, and know that your identity matters, even in the face of challenging circumstances.
